Our Clinics

We have a team of experienced and highly trained practice nurses who run a comprehensive and dynamic service covering health promotion, disease prevention, minor injuries/wound management, chronic disease management and women's health.

An appointment with a nurse rather than a GP may be suitable for patients requiring chronic disease monitoring.

In addition there are daily appointments reserved for emergencies.

You may refer yourself directly to the nurse or the doctor may refer you.

Family Planning/Well Woman

  • Emergency contraception/morning-after pill.  If you think that you may require this service please contact the surgery as soon as possible. The “morning after” pill works up to 3 days.  It is most effective in preventing pregnancy on the first day after unprotected intercourse.  The longer you leave it, the less effective it will be.  An IUCD (intra uterine coil device) can be used as an emergency form of contraception up to 5 days.  The doctor or nurse will be able to give you details of where this can be fitted.

Ear Syringing

If you regularly need your ears syringing, please soften the ear wax with olive oil drops before attending the surgery for syringing.  It is important to put 3 drops of oil in the affected ear 2 or 3 times a day for 3 days.  Most importantly of all is to let the olive oil soak in the ear for 20 minutes by lying down flat with the affected ear uppermost.  The oil will penetrate the ear wax and soften it ready for syringing.

Suture and clip removal

Please make an appointment with the nurse as instructed by your surgeon.

Dressings - Wound Care/Minor Injury

Please make an appointment to see the nurse.

Urine Testing

  • We do not do routine pregnancy testing here except in special circumstances.
  • If you think you may have a bladder infection, please make an appointment and bring a clean fresh sample with you if possible.
  • Make sure it is in an appropriate bottle and clearly labelled. (Bottles are available from reception)
  • If you send a sample in, please give a contact telephone number so that the nurse is able to reach you.
