Transferring care from private providers to the NHS
Private providers including private GPs can make referrals to NHS services, without referral back to the NHS GP, provided the patient would be eligible for NHS referral. To make a referral the provider needs to be able to access the hospital eReferral system in many cases which can be a logistical barrier as many NHS hospitals will only accept referrals this way. Hospital rejection of non-eRS referrals should be addressed between the private provider and the NHS Trust.
